WSL Up and Running

For those who love Linux or want to take full advantage of their Windows OS, WSL is the new hotness.

By the end of this short guide, you will have a Ubuntu WSL system up and running and have it integrated with Windows Terminal.

WSL installation

If you aren’t familiar with WSL or don’t have it installed, you should follow Microsoft’s WSL installation guide. Be sure to update WSL 2 if your system meets the minimum requirements defined in the installation guide.

Be sure to follow all of the steps outlined as per your version of Windows. That is, follow steps one through six. By the end of step five, you will have WSL 2 set up.

Finally, choose the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS distribution to install for demonstration purposes. This is my recommendation since Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution out there. You can choose whichever distribution you’d like.

Windows Terminal setup

Each WSL distribution comes with its own integrated terminal whenever you open the corresponding application, but I recommend using Windows Terminal.
